From United Kingdom: animals ARE accepted as cargo only on flights departing from the United Kingdom. Advance arrangements are required – please contact Air Transat Cargo department.  Service animals are accepted – please see below for complete details.

Service animals

We will be pleased to welcome on board certified service animals that are travelling with a person with a disability. However, please note that the United Kingdom will only allow entry through certain airports and extensive pre-flight arrangements and paperwork must be completed well before the intended date of travel (months before in some cases). Please contact us for details. When departing from the United Kingdom, service animals will be accepted from any airport to Canada, upon presentation of the proper documentation.

Before you go

Please contact us well in advance of travel to discuss the most appropriate arrangements for your trip, including seating and space required for you and your service animal, and any destination specific advanced requirements.

To ensure seating with sufficient floor space for the animal, we strongly recommend that you select your seat by calling us at 00 800 AT EUROPE (00800 2838 7673). During the discussion with our agent, we can best assign the most appropriate seating and space for you and your service animal. We ask that you contact us as soon as you have booked your flight, but at minimum, 48 hours before your flight. All efforts will be made to honour requests received after that time.

There is no cost to you for selected seating or for your certified service animal to accompany you in the cabin.

Service animals will not be carried unless proper permits are obtained for entry into the countries of transit or final destination, and such permits are presented prior to commencement of travel. Passengers will also be asked to present the training certificate prior to travel.

At the airport

When departing, an Air Transat agent or Airport agent will be pleased to assist you with:

  • Registration at check-in counter
  • Moving to the boarding area
  • Pre-boarding (passengers with service animals will board the aircraft in priority)

Once on board, your service animal must stay under your supervision and wear its harness at all times.

On arrival, an Air Transat agent can assist you with:

  • Deplaning
  • Retrieving checked baggage
  • Moving to the general public area
  • Getting to a representative of another airline for a flight connection
